Intelius and Naveen Jain’s Philanthropic Feats
In 2008, Intelius Inc, a screening, search, and identity protection provider based in Bellevue, Washington has ramped up its contributions to charity despite the tight economy. The six-year old company has given around $210,000 to several national and local nonprofit organizations in the same year. With just 191 employees, their contributions for 2008 have made a new corporate giving record for the firm.
Naveen Jain, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Intelius, motivates his employees as well as inspires other corporations to take time in reaching out to these organizations. “I am inspired by the amazing work done by the nonprofit groups we work with, and I want to instill that passion not only within Intelius, but as an example for others to follow,” he says.
Naveen Jain’s choice of nonprofit organizations rages from those who are advocating healthcare, education, family, and youth issues. An example of such organization is Hopelink, a nonprofit organization dedicated to help people with low incomes become self-sufficient.
Jain and his company have also initiated a scholarship endowment program at the University of Washington. The program was established to offer financial aid to undergraduates in Business and Computer Science and Engineering. Lately, the company’s contribution to the endowment program has reached $170,000.
Intelius and Naveen Jain’s other charitable partners for 2008 includes the Children’s Hospital, Treehouse, Bellevue Boys and Girls Club, Eastside Domestic Violence Program, and the Bellevue School Foundation.
For 2009, the company anticipates to equal or surpass its outreach efforts as a corporation at the same time promoting a philanthropic spirit in its employees. To achieve this, the company came up with programs to give a chance to employees to take part in its philanthropic success — the company has developed a corporate matching program in which for every donation an employee gives to his/her choice of qualified charity; Intelius matches that donation up to $250 annually. Intelius also offers its employees paid volunteerism. The company will award employees paid leave to volunteer with any charity they wish to help.
