Choosing Panties

Many types of lingerie are donned with the intention of being worn for a few minutes before being removed, like wrapping paper on a present. Thus, the focus is on flattering the wearer without much concern for practicalities like fit and comfort.

Panties are different in that they are worn every day. Predicting when they will need to serve as lingerie instead of just underwear isn’t always trivial. Where not long ago a wardrobe might consist primarily of basic cotton with lacy panties saved for special occasions, today’s women have a wide array of choices available to them.

Basic briefs come in many colors, patterns, and fabrics — cotton, silk, satin, nylon, spandex, and all manner of blends, designed to make the woman feel pretty. Plus, the designers give consideration to comfort for all-day wear.

Another factor in panty selection is to disguise the fact that they are being worn at all. In briefs, this deception is accomplished by form-fitting fabrics that reveal no panty lines. Styles such as thongs hide the panty line on the woman’s torso such that no ridge is visible even when worn with tight skirts and slacks. The color of the undies should be picked to coexist with the outer wear. If a garment is light in color or translucent, then panties of a similar shade or flesh tones will be less noticeable than a bold shade like black or red.

If the day calls for something different, panties are now common in a variety of styles. Low-rise or high-cut briefs, boy shorts, bikinis, panties, thongs, and G-strings exist in designs ranging from generic to luxurious silk and lace.

So a woman can still opt for a traditional pair of panties or a honeymoon-suitable piece of lingerie. She just has dozens of choices in between.
