SAP Business One: Simplified Mid-Size ERP – Highlights for Consultant

Friday, May 30th, 2008

The World of Corporate MRP systems is full of surprises. If in the late 1990th major ERP market players: Oracle, SAP were trying to realize the strategy of releasing so-called ‘light’, ’select’, ‘express’ versions of their high-end ERP – the idea is very simple and attractive – if your corporate ERP application could be written on one CD (or several CDs) – why not to try the game when you disable 70% of the functionality and release ‘lite’ version? The real world kind of accepted and a the same time rejected this movement from the up to the down – as would it funny to realize, but the issue was – this is still the same heavy-pace ERP application and its implementation cycle is of course reduced, but not substantially and not enough to fit to mid-size and small companies. Plus – these heavy-weight applications were targeting super and mini computers, when Intel-based Servers achieved and surpassed the performance (and more important price efficiency) of these ‘high end’ computers – the necessity to support multiple OS and DB platforms ceased to exist.

• SAP Business One. SAP understood the necessity to acquire simple, and still powerful MRP/ERP system, which has simple design and as so, reduced implementation cycle. The idea of all-in-one license type is also innovative and probably helps marketing campaign. SAP Business One, when it was marketed by original software development vendor from Israel wasn’t a serious competitor to Microsoft or Oracle – until SAP purchased it and revised its marketing campaign.

• Modern Design. SAP Business One includes CRM module, it is (at least at this moment) excellently integrated with Microsoft Office. Please note that SAP Business One is not (at this time) a subject to Mendocino project – mySAP integration with Microsoft Office/Outlook.

• Production/Manufacturing. While targeted to small and mid-size clientele – SAP BO has production/ERP modules, which makes it attractive for overseas manufacturing facilities of multinational corporations.

• COM Object support. At this moment (2006) this is cool, but Microsoft Business Solutions suggest the argument against SAP Business One – if SAP doesn’t develop its own office solution or at least doesn’t invest into cooperation with Microsoft in the Office application direction – SAP Business One might lose the technology ground by 2010.

• Simplified MRP. We already publicized the idea of deploying simplified ERP for corporate business, the critical is reliable database platform (MS SQL Server is reasonably cheap nowadays and very reliable). The idea is very simple – if you are corporate business and you feel that you should be in rich-functionality ERP realm – implement simplified MRP which has the same reliability parameters, but requires some custom design to fit your business processes.

Paying for College: Scholarships and Federal Aid

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Well the weekend has come and gone, and I still have no students seeking advice. Please email me your questions, I’m begging you! It’s partly my fault because I’m still slacking on advertising this blog. There’s a lesson for all the students out there. Don’t slack. I slacked a lot of my way through college. It works for the time being, but later on it will come back to haunt you. Try to instill solid work methods now while you still have a chance, or else when you’re twenty-something and working a full-time job, you will only think about ways to get you work done without actually working.

On to today’s topic: Paying for College. Getting the funds for college and living expenses is one of the biggest challenges you will face, perhaps even tougher than getting into college. If you slacked your way through high school and ended up with poor grades, your chances of a scholarship are not as high. But hopefully you listened to your teachers and parents and did well in school.

In Florida we have what is called a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship. Based on your grades, SAT/ACT scores, and community service, every graduating senior attending college can receive a 75% tuition scholarship or a 100% + books scholarship. Florida is awesome when it comes to providing every student the means to attend college. I am not sure how other states work, but I would imagine each state has similar scholarship programs.

Scholarships are what every student needs. Tuition can be very expensive depending on where you go to school and how many classes you take. Out of state schools will cost a student more money. Private schools will also be more expensive. Scholarships give students the ability to attend colleges on someone else’s dime. Pretty sweet deal huh?

Not all scholarships are based on financial situation like most people think. Generally, students who are in need of financial aid will be given a high priority when it comes to winning a scholarship; however, this is not always the case. Don’t be shy when asking about scholarships. Consult your school counselors, parents, teachers, and friends. You’d be surprised that the company your parents work for probably offer scholarships. Even if it is only for $1000, that is still free money you can’t pass up.

Scholarships are not limited to incoming freshman either. Current sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible for scholarships. Often upper level students are awarded scholarships to further their study in their specific major, such as Education majors. Visit your school’s financial aid office for more information.

One of the best, if not the best, resources for scholarship information is FastWeb. Every student needs to visit them. Yes, even you seniors. There are thousands of scholarships that go un-awarded every year. So get off this web page (when you’re done reading of course) and go get one.

http://www.fastweb.com

Another method of getting money for college is from Uncle Sam himself. No, not your mom’s half brother that you only see on Memorial Day barbeques. I’m talking about the United States Government. The federal government gives out free money to college students. It’s called FAFSA, which stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. FAFSA grants are determined by how much money your parents make. You have to fill out a form in your school’s financial aid department or online via their website, www.fafsa.ed.gov. Every student needs to do this. Even if your parents make $500,000 a year, there is still a chance you are eligible for a free grant. A grant is money you do not have to pay back. Ever.

Let’s say your parents give you $2000 a year for college. You use this for tuition, books, rent, and food (and with all these expenses plus more, $2000 does not go that far). Let’s say you have filled out your FAFSA forms and are given $1000. This is awesome! But wait, it’s been two years and now your little sister is going to college and your parents can’t afford to give you $2,000 each. So they split it up and you each get $1000. What a bummer!! Or is it? FAFSA adjusts your grant according to not only what your parents make, but how many siblings you have in college. The more brothers and sisters you have going to college, the more money you get.

The most dreaded, but probably most popular, method of paying for college are student loans. Almost all students have them, so don’t feel bad if you are forced to get one. If you’ve taken a finance or economic class you’ve probably heard the terms “good debt” and “bad debt”. Victoria’s Secret credit card debt is “bad debt”, while student loans are “good debt”. Student loans offer the lowest interest rates of any type of loans. Often they give you a grace period after graduation where not a single cent is due. Student loans can be paid off over a long period of time with fixed interest rates.

Subsidized student loans are loans you get through your school’s financial aid department that the government pays the interest for. Not a bad option either if you are in need of tuition money. Visit your bank or financial aid office for more information on student loans. All banks offer them, so go ask today.

Finally, the last method of paying for college I’m going to discuss is through good old hard labor. Getting a job can help pay the bills. Waitressing, bartending, retail, and tutoring are all prime examples of college jobs. If you aren’t into working at a restaurant or mall, visit your student career resource center. Jobs on campus are given out to students who are financially needy. The best thing about working on campus is they will fit your work schedule around your classes and tests. You will never have to miss class or work. One of the disadvantages of working on campus is the pay is generally low. You will make a lot more money working at Chili’s than you will your school’s bookstore.

I hope you enjoyed this article. If you have any further questions about paying for college, please ask. Email me at collegesos@yahoo.com.

Effect Of Birth Order On Children

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Older sister, younger brother, or middle child are more than just labels that people have in a family; psychologist say that birth order has an effect on all aspects of a child’s personality.

First Born: First born children are born as natural leaders. They also tend to be perfectionists, reliable and conscientious people. First born children do not react well to surprises and can be aggressive, however are often people pleasers. Children who are first born have a strong need for approval by others. Examples of first born children include Oprah Winfrey, Peter Jennings, Rush Limbaugh and over half of all U.S.A presidents.

Only Child: Only children are similar to first born children. The characteristics in an only child however are typically three fold. They are even bigger perfectionists, are more responsible and tend to get along better with older people than individuals there own age. Examples of only children are Robin Williams, Natalie Portman, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Frank Sinatra and Lauren Bacall.

Middle Child: The middle child is often the most difficult to stereotype. They are almost always guaranteed to be the opposite of their older sibling, but this can manifest in a variety of ways. Middle children typically feel as though their older sibling stole the spotlight from them, while their younger siblings could get away with murder. They tend to be secretive, more withdrawn and not prone to talk about their emotions. Since middle children feel as though they were overlook by their family they grow stronger connections with peers and are excellent people readers and peacemakers.

Last Born: The children who are born last tend to be outgoing, social butterflies. They are also the most financially unstable of all the other siblings since their primary interest is in having a good time. The youngest children of the family are often very charming, but can also be manipulative and spoiled. Examples of some babies of the family are Billy Crystal, Goldie Hawn, Drew Carey, Jim Carey and Steve Martin.

While these are typically characteristics of birth order, there are some exceptions such as a larger space between the children may allow for some crossing over of characteristics or if the first born is a girl and the next child is a boy he will have some first sibling characteristics since he was the first male child in the family. Deaths, adoptions and blended families can also have an effect on these characteristics.

Professional Wrestling – How To Participate Or Watch From Afar

Friday, May 30th, 2008

One of the most popular forms of sports entertainment, in the world, is that of wrestling. Attracting the attention of millions of fans, professional wrestling is a combination of successful merchandising and televised events.

World Wrestling Entertainment, also known as WWE, is the major powerhouse in the world of professional wrestling. Athletes aim for stardom as the compete in the sport’s largest organization. A number of wrestling schools, throughout America, train athletes to perfect the art of the sport, the maneuvers and even may help to provide placement for their most talented performers.

Individuals interested in training for professional wrestling may decide to call the organization that they eventually hope to work for, such as WWE, and ask for a list of wrestling schools that they scout. If there is a school that the company endorses, athletes may benefit from attending the recommended wrestling school in order to improve their chances of stardom.

Wrestling training centers can be expensive depending upon the amount of time spent training and the skill level. An amateur wrestler would be likely to spend more on wrestling training than an intermediate or advanced athlete. A series of weight training, workout regimens, diet regimens and actual ring practice can be expected during wrestling training. The schedules are demanding and the tasks exhausting, but training centers offer the best look at what a wrestling lifestyle is all about.

For those who prefer to watch from afar, and not actually be a part of the action, the sidelines are the best seat in the house. Televised tapings are held throughout the country with visits to stadiums and venues in almost every state. In addition, autograph events are frequently held in order to allow fans to meet their favorite wrestling superstars up-close and personal.

Wrestling is a form of sports entertainment like no other. The fanfare, lights, music and outlandish characters make wrestling what it is today. A combination of gymnastic moves, extensive training and dedication are required of all wrestling superstars. At each event, the athletes strive to provide a quality performance and one that fans will enjoy until the last minute. To garner even more excitement, the annual superbowl of wrestling, known as Wrestlemania, is held as a live pay-per-view event each year. A treat for fans and a test of skill to wrestling superstars, Wrestlemania offers some of the wildest, most exciting events of the year.

How to Earn $3000 or more as Home-Based Child Care Provider

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

The demand for Child Care Providers is on the increase. This is
expected to continue. There is no better time than now for
anyone with a desire to make money in this industry. There are
several reasons the experts believe are responsible for this
increase. To mention a few; the parents of these children had
been forced to work outside the home as a result of the current
economy. Most families are tending towards two income earners
and as a result, they need a Child Care Provider to care for
their kids. Unfortunately, the high increase in divorce rate is
creating a situation whereby single parents (single mom / single
dad) need a Child Care Provider while they are out at work. Some
stay at home moms want their kids to attend day care for the
purpose of playing, learning and socializing with other kids.
They want their kids to start creating and nurturing
relationships with other kids. There are many more reasons why
parents need Child Care Providers like you to care for their
children.

Huge Amount of Money To Be Made

There is huge amount of money in this industry to be made by
children lovers. It is not uncommon that home Child Care
Provider to make $40,000 or more a year from the comfort of
their home. In addition to monetary gain, home Child Care
Providers enjoy the rare privilege of spending more time with
their kids. They watch their own children grow. They enjoy being
a part of every stage of their children’s life. Everyday would
be like friends coming over to play with their own kids. Yet,
they make money off this everyday ‘friends come over visit’. For
those without any kids of their own, what a wonderful way to
have children around you to play with, care for and acquire
wonderful experiences with raising great kids.

Simple Idea on How To Earn $4000 to $5600 Per Month From Your
Home

To earn $3000 or more per month could be simple. Where I live in
North America, the government allows a maximum of 8 children at
a home day care without the need for government licenses or
regulations. Check your government regulations for what applies
in your locality. Day care monthly prices in my region could be
as high as $500 or more per month per child depending on the age
of the child. In bigger cities, I understand prices could
sometimes average about $700 or more. In small/medium cities,
you can easily average $4000/month (8 kids at $500 each). In
bigger cities, you will expect about $5600 per month (8 kids at
$700 each). If you desire to earn more money, check your
government regulations on how to obtain a permit to increase the
number of children in your home day care.

What Is Holding You Back?

Most moms really desire to earn good income from home. Some do
wish to quit their jobs and create this kind of income as a
child care provider. Some wish to start home day care just for
the benefit of enjoying the opportunity of spending more time
with their own children. They love to stay at home and raise
great kids while earning a nice income. What is holding them
back from starting are a couple of reasons. The main reason
being the lack of knowledge on how to go about setting up and
running their home-based day care with ease and fun.

First and Important Step To Start Earning

The information that will get you started will include how to
organize your home to accommodate the children’s needs. You will
need to know how to plan for the age group of children that you
have passion for and would love to really care for. You will
need to have fun and educational activities planned for the kids
depending on how you choose to run the home care. You will need
to know simple, friendly and very affordable ways to attract
parents to you as their Child Care Provider. The good news is
that you do not necessarily need to re-invent the wheel. Most of
the information you need to setup and run a successful home
based child care service are readily available.

Compulsive Gambler Seeks Alternatives To Stop Gambling

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Compulsive gambler’s life was devastated by gambling and now seeks alternatives to help his addiction before he loses everything. This seems to be a common trend among compulsive gamblers. They realize there’s a problem but don’t know where to go in order to get help.

Many people have tried Gamblers Anonymous but stopped after a short period (usually two weeks) because it was awkward and uncomfortable. These people who gambled had a private addiction and were unwilling to let the world know they had a serious problem. In some situations people would run into friends and, or former co-workers at the Gamblers Anonymous weekly meetings. All of a sudden their world came crumbling down and they did not know where to hide. At first they couldn’t understand why people didn’t stay there for help. They now understand that their addiction is a private one. You can not tell who’s a gambler by just looking at them.

These individuals who quit Gamblers Anonymous are now searching for another alternative to stop before their lives became more destructive.

Due to modern technology there are now private stop gambling chat rooms and self help manuals available that have helped thousands and thousands of compulsive gamblers beat their addiction. Any search engine on the internet will help compulsive gamblers find a treatment that best fits their situation. The key is to take the time to see what works for you and modify the programs to fit your needs.

It’s unfortunate that usually a loved one wife, husband or partner of a compulsive gambler is the driving force that pushes the gambler to seek help. In most cases it comes in the form of a threat. They threaten to leave the person if they don’t change their behaivior. In order to please their loved ones they agree and make a good attempt at stopping. In a majority of cases these people fail miserably. It’s up to the gambler to make the choice to stop. After many broken promises the loved one prepares to divorce and or leave the gambler in a last ditch attempt to save the relationship. At this point I have noticed a large percentage of gamblers realize they want to quit but still do not know how.

When you start to look at how a compulsive gambler thinks, you realize that there are similar personality traits. The major one is the ego. When you affect some ones ego you are personally affecting their self esteem. Getting recognized at a Gamblers Anonymous meeting is extremely devastating to the Gambler. An alternative program is needed to keep what’s left of Gamblers self esteem in order for them to take the first step on their road to recovery. As they begin to recover life gets better and better and these people are able to live very productive lives once again. You can also find books on stop gambling at Stop Gambling Books http://www.stop-gambling-books.com/

Mr. Howard Keith has an extensive background in dealing with compulsive gamblers, relatives and friends of gamblers and teenage gamblers.
Mr. Keith believes there are many alternatives to aid in the recovery of a gambling addiction verses a twelve step program. A large percentage of his emails were from compulsive gamblers looking for an alternative to Gamblers Anonymous and twelve step programs. Gamblers Anonymous also helps a significant number of people each year but there is a large percentage that they are unable to reach.

3 Winning Sales Strategies You Can’t Market Without!

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

1. Attention-Getting Ads Get Results
Think about it…how many advertisements do you hear every day…how about every hour? Let’s face it, we’re bombarded with magazine ads, newspaper ads, TV ads, radio ads, and the Internet is plastered with ads on every site. Not many of the astronomical number of advertisments stick with us, and make an impact. How can you make your ad STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD?

” Make a dramatic statement: “Even my dog knows ….”
” Surprise them with the unexpected: “Use for 30 days totally free…”
” Ask a thought provoking question: “Is your current insurance costing you hundreds of extra dollars every year?”
” Use high impact headlines – it’s important to snag their attention right away.

2. Get Personal
How many times have you been caught in the cycle of automated phone services? Yeh, you push 15 numbers and end up back at the main menu and never did talk to a sales rep. People are hungry for personal interaction in the marketplace. Look for ways to make your business a personal experience that your customers will appreciate. Get to know something about the people who walk through your doors. Let the people who visit your website know something about you. Yeh, it’s easier to trust an individual than a huge impersonal company…and trust is crucial to building a pool of loyal customers.

3. Paint a Picture
Ah, the end of a hectic week has finally arrived! As I lock the doors on a still cluttered office, my mind wanders to the many things that will demand my attention this weekend. I long to just escape the demanding voices…escape to the waters of the lake across town. It would be like heaven to plop myself across the back seat of a boat, and watch the sea gulls dip and dive as the waves rock me peacefull to sleep. Yep, I can almost hear the sound of their splashing when the clang of metal alerts me to the fact that I’ve dropped my keys.

Put your customers on the boat. Yeah, painting word pictures that capture their emotions will be more effective that the raw facts of the benefit your product offers. Describe what the benefits will do for them, vividly and in great detail…get them panting for the end result. Paint your way to a sale!

Think about it…the 3 tactics we’ve talked about deal with human emotions or behaviors, rather than your product itself. Yeah, when we affect the inner part of the customer, our sales are likely to see great results… and hey, they’ll feel good while they’re writing out the check! What more could you ask for?

What Does the Point of Diminishing Return Mean?

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Advertising, what does the point of diminishing return mean?

The point of diminishing return simply means that no matter how much more money you spend on advertising, your gross sales will only increase in small increment, if any at all.

Below are some sample budgets for a single product showing how diminishing return can affect your profits and sales.

Example 1

Product: Widgets

Price: $100.00
Monthly Ad Budget: 2k
Monthly Widget Sales: 30
Gross Revenue: $3,000.00
Less Advertising: $2,000.00
Gross Profit: $1,000.00

Example 2
Product: Widgets

Price: $100.00
Monthly Ad Budget: 3k
Monthly Widget Sales: 35
Gross Revenue: $3,500.00
Less Advertising: $3,000.00
Gross Profit: $500.00

Example 3
Product: Widgets
Price: $100.00
Monthly Ad Budget: 4k
Monthly Widget Sales: 40
Gross Revenue: $4,000.00
Less Advertising: $4,000.00
Gross Profit: $0.00

The examples above clearly illustrate that sometime spending more money does not necessarily mean making more profit. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that example 1 is clearly the most cost efficient budget. Assuming that without the advertising the merchant wouldn’t have any sales.

When you’re planning your advertising budget, take into consideration the demand for your product and always be very careful when adding dollars to your advertising, just because your selling 30 widgets when you spend 2k per month doesn’t mean if you spend 4k you’ll sell 40 widgets.

How to Tell if a Single Woman is Really Interested in You

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

It’s very important to learn how a single woman acts, speaks,
and uses body language around you that indicates that she is romantically or sexually interested in you. When you learn
these signs, you can use this to your advantage. If a woman
is truly interested in you, this really increases your chances
of scoring with her.

Use these guidelines to tell if a single woman is truly
interested and attracted to you:

1. Big smiles with upper and lower teeth showing, with a
relaxed face.

2. She gazes in your eyes with deep interest and her pupils
are dilated (this could be mistaken for being high on drugs).

3. Biting of the lips or showing of the tongue, licking her

lips or touching of her front teeth.

4. While talking to you she is slowly stroking her cocktail
glass up and down with her thumb and index finger.

5. If she is wearing clothes that shows her nipples underneath
and you notice they are getting perky and erect.

6. She starts sitting straight up and her muscles appear to
be firm.

7. Her crossed leg is pointed towards you or if that same leg
is rocking back and forth towards you.

8. She raises or lowers the volume of her voice to match
yours.

9. She rubs her chin or touches her cheek. This indicates
that she’s thinking about you and her relating in some way.

10. She blows smoke straight out from between her lips and
toward you.

11. She winks at you while talking to you or winks at you
from a distance.

12. She exposes the palms of her hand facing you.

13. She twirls her hair around her fingers while she is
looking at you.

14. Her skin tone becomes red while being around you.

15. She rubs her wrists up and down.

16. She puts her fingernail between her teeth.

17. She laughs in unison with you.

18. She touches your arm, shoulder, thigh, or hand while
talking to you.

19. Plays with her jewelry, especially with stroking and
pulling motions.

20. She mirrors your body language and body positions.

21. Eyebrows raised and then lowered, then a smile usually
indicates interest in you.

22. While talking to you, she rests an elbow in the palm of
one hand, while holding out her other hand, palm up.

23. In a crowd she speaks only to you and focuses all of her
undivided attention on you.

24. While talking to you, she blinks more than usual,
fluttering her eyelashes.

25. She speeds up or slows down her speaking to match yours.

I know this is a lot of signs to look for, but this will be
to your advantage to know if she’s interested in you. If
she’s not truly interested in you, you will just be wasting
your time on her. Memorize these positive signs to determine
if she’s got the “hots” for you and take advantage of the
situation accordingly with your charm and seduction techniques.
